A Soviet Ambassador to Canada, refusing to go back to his homeland, walked out of the Soviet Embassy with a suitcase full of U.S.S.R documents. He went to the RCMP, where his story was not believed and to a TV station, where the producer was not interested in his story. Afraid that Soviets have already figured out why he is missing, he hid his family in his neighbour’s apartment for the night, watching through the keyhole as Soviets burst through the door of his apartment and searched for him, only leaving when escorted by the police. His story and the documents he held were later taken in consideration, revealing Soviet Espionage rings throughout Canada and the U.S that were operating in order to figure out the secrets to the Atomic Bomb build.
The incident is considered to have started the Cold War, with the espionage rings revealed in Canada. This brought fear and paranoia to the U.S, “The Soviets are spying on us?”. In 1945, a Soviet A This is thought to have brought down the “Iron Curtain”, which left the whole world at a MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) state for over 45 years.
